Description
Perennials forming tussocks, up to 20-30 cm in diameter; culms short, tightly packed, densely leafy, usually 3-15 cm long, repeatedly branched, the branches erect. Leaves closely imbricate; sheaths densely hispid or hirsute to glabrous; ligule 0.5-1.5 mm long; blades flat, lanceolate, often twisted or concave, usually 0.8-6.5 cm long, (3-)3.5-8(-10) mm wide, many nerved, glabrous except margins coarsely ciliate nearly throughout with long, stiff, pustulate-based hairs. Panicles few-flowered, 1-2 cm Iong, not or only slightly exserted above the leaves, glabrous throughout; spikelets 1.8-2 mm long; first glume ca. 1/3 as long as spikelet; palea of first floret ca. 2/3 as long as lemma of first floret.
